Ashlee Vandenbroek
Veterinarian (DVM)
Being born and bred in the Adelaide Hills, I have great memories of bringing my array of family pets to Ali, Mary Ann, and the team at Blackwood Vets. Growing up, I was surrounded by animals from guinea pigs (Joey and Chandler), rescue dog (Mia) to now our two beautiful Boston Terriers (Piper and Hugo), Staffy X (Bear), Cat (Jazzi) and Bearded Dragon (Spike). It didn’t take long to be fascinated by the profession and to be inspired to have a career helping animals.
After completing my schooling at Belair Primary and Unley High schools, I was off to Roseworthy to pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian. I was honoured to accept my first role and become part of the team at Blackwood Vets and I feel privileged to be supported by a fantastic, extremely caring team and to be back surrounded by the amazing Hills community that I love so much.
My spare time is taken up getting out in nature and spending time with friends and family. I have a particular passion for photography, and love taking pictures of subjects with 4 legs.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you and your furry family members. Hopefully I too will inspire someone to take the journey I did to help our furry friends.

Michelle Huang
Veterinarian (DVM)
Originally from Taiwan I moved to Adelaide with my family on my 6th birthday - easy to keep track of how many years I’ve been in Australia! I have visited other capital cities in Australia, but Adelaide still feels most like home. I love the people, the laid back lifestyle, our beaches and all the festivals held throughout the year.
One of my favourite things to do is taking photos. Documenting life, family, pets and most of all food! I love discovering all the amazing food places Adelaide has, and would be keen to hear any suggestions if we ever have a chat!
I’m a 2020 graduate from The University of Adelaide, who has a keen interest in surgery and imaging (ultrasounds & x-rays). I joined Blackwood Veterinary Surgery in December 2022 after a 4 month post-covid hiatus of travelling around Europe - it was absolutely amazing. I’m very excited to be part of such a wonderful community especially with such a warm welcome at the Christmas pageant. I love a close community who’s supportive of one another like Blackwood, and I hope this will be the first of many pageants to come.

Tobi Learey
Veterinarian (Veterinarian (DVM))
Growing up in Adelaide, I've shared my home with dogs and horses, competing in three-day-eventing in my younger years. I developed a love for all creatures, great and small, having worked with dogs, cats, horses, cattle, buffalo, giraffes, even zebra throughout my travels while studying to become a veterinarian.
Now, I am looking forward to settling into the small animal world here in the Adelaide Hills and building on my current experience in surgery, internal medicine and providing a fear-free environment for my patients.
I also have a passion for elevating the health and wellbeing of veterinary professionals and allied professions, so I am excited to work alongside our incredible Practice Manager, Nicole Bowden. Together, we aim to continually develop our team from the fantastic foundation that Blackwood Veterinary Clinic already has, a welcoming and caring client base and beautifully cute and lovable pets!
If I'm not in the clinic, I am at the University of Adelaide tutoring our up-and-coming professionals to prepare them for the extremely rewarding but sometimes challenging aspects of practicing veterinary medicine. I also love the beach, the outdoors and travel, so any chance I get, I take my beautiful mixed-breed puppy for a run or explore the great Australian Outback with my partner.

Nicole Bowden
Veterinary Practice Manager (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)
I have been Vet Nursing for over 10 years after a career change from having my own Hairdressing Salon. For me, pets have so much unselfish love to give us, and as humans we have a lot to learn from them, I think! I share 2 Labradors, Shadow and Ellie, with my husband and our world heavily revolves around them, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. When I’m not at work, I enjoy doing reformer pilates, walking our dogs, gardening, going on 4wd trips with my husband, and going to different restaurants with friends and family.
I have enjoyed many aspects of Veterinary Nursing over the years, but my interests have moved to practice management. With a rich background in veterinary nursing and a proven track record of excellence with previously running my own business, I bring a unique blend of compassion, strategic vision, and hands-on experience to our team.
Driven by a deep-rooted passion for animal welfare and a commitment to delivering high standards of care, I have recently transitioned into the role of Practice Manager at Blackwood Vets. My leadership will elevate our clinic, working alongside our Clinical Lead Veterinarian, Dr Tobi Learey, ensuring seamless operations, exceptional client experiences, and a supportive environment for our dedicated staff.

Brianna Ramsey
Veterinary Technician (Bachelor of Veterinary Technology)
I recently completed a Bachelor degree in Veterinary Technology at the University of Adelaide in 2022. I was inspired from a young age to care for animals, and it was the perfect opportunity when the degree became available in 2020. I am really excited about my career beginning in the Vet industry at Blackwood Vets.
I currently live with my family's rescue dog who is an energetic staffy x whippet named Bandit (the boss of the house). When I'm not at work i enjoy spending my time with family and friends, going on day trips, playing netball and going for walks with Bandit.

Harrison Olsen
Veterinary Technician (Bachelor of Veterinary Technology)
I am an aspiring Veterinary Technologist, having completed my Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at the University of Adelaide at the end of 2023, with a passion for all animals. Having grown up around them, I have become quite the Great Dane lover. After having five Great Danes, my love for animals has grown over the years with a developing interest in providing animal care. Always having wanted to work in the veterinary industry, I am glad I’ve made my start at Blackwood Vet.
I currently have one Great Dane at the moment, Poppy. She’s a rebellious teenager whose enjoyment consists of walks on the beach, chasing a ball, body slamming guests because who doesn’t love a “hug”, digging holes in the backyard for the pool we didn’t ask for, rearranging the irrigation system and a whole range of other “gardening” activities.
Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with family and friends. I am a big sports person who loves watching almost anything from motorsport to footy as well as playing old collegians soccer and in summer you can find me on the Murray River waterskiing.

Abbey Haydon

I have grown up around horses since a young age, where my love for animals began. While undertaking year 12, I completed my Certificate III in Rural Operations Animal Care and Husbandry and completed my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at the end of 2023. After working with horses, in both paid and unpaid capacities, I decided to further my career by working in a small animal Veterinary clinic and was fortunate to start here with the amazing team at Blackwood Vets in January 2023.
In my spare time, I enjoy horse riding, including competing in local competitions, volunteering with Riding for the Disabled and spending time with my family and friends.
